"Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this; to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world."

My Advocate Journey Begins With 2 Small Children

Just last week, I became an official Compassion advocate when I recieved in the mail my advocate's starter kit. It was like Christmas opening up that box of goodies that will help me make the most of advocating for children all over the world! The most exciting thing in that box was the 2 sponsorship packets. I get the amazing responsibility and blessing of looking for a loving sponsor for 5 year old Jourdan and 7 year old Reyna. Let me introduce to them:

Jourdan is 5 years old and he lives in Medan, Indonesia. He lives with his mom and his dad, and his a big help to the family because he is in charge of running errands. His father works as a farmer, but it is really hard to make a living when you are only bringing in about $80 a month. Jourdan loves to sing, create art, and ride his bike. He is just like any other adorable 5 year old boy, except he is surrounded by such oppressing poverty that he may never have the chance to fulfill his dreams. Because Jourdan is a part of Compassion's ministry he is able to attend church activities and learn how much Jesus loves him. He also gets nutritious meals, medical examinations, recreational activities, and English classes.

Reyna is 7 years old and she lives in a mountaneous community in central Guatemala. She lives with her mom and dad and she has 1 sibling. Her chores include carrying water, running errands, and cleaning. What where you doing when you were 7 years old? I bet you weren't running errands or in charge of cleaning. I know I wasn't. Reyna's father is sometimes employed as a farmer. SOMETIMES. It is hard enough making a living in a third world country when you are employed full time. Imagine only having a job sometimes. Reyna is a sweet little girl who loves playing with dolls, running, and hide-and-seek. As a part of Compassion's ministry she is able to go to Bible class, get tutoring , play sports, learn cultural activities, and have birthday celebrations.

I know that not sponsoring a child is not for everyone. Not everyone can afford $38 a month. But it doesn't cost anything to pray. So please pray for Jourdan and Reyna. Pray that they know that Jesus loves them. Pray that they know, that even if life around them is hard and scary, that they matter. That they are precious in God's eyes. That he has a plan and purpose for their life. Pray that these sweet children are protected from the terrors around them, and that maybe soon they will have a loving sponsor.
